Christina Chan
Grievance Officer, Organization of Staff Analysts
I began working with the Organization of Staff Analysts in the Summer of 2008 as an intern tasked with data entry and filing. When Summer ended, I was hired part-time while earning my Urban Studies degree at Queens College. During this time, I trained under the late Timothy Collins, who was Chief Negotiator and Grievance Director at the time.
In this context, I found my passion for Grievances and the fair treatment of OSA members in the workplace. I find it extremely satisfying to be able to help members navigate contractual matters and the Grievance procedure or defend themselves against disciplinary charges.
When I completed my Bachelor's degree, I was hired full-time as OSA's Grievance Scheduler.
With guidance from OSA Chair Bob Croghan and Executive Director Sheila Gorsky, I was encouraged to take City exams. In the meantime, I advanced my career at OSA by becoming the union’s Grievance Coordinator in 2015.
When DCAS offered the Analyst exam series in 2015, I took the opportunity to take an exam and become a civil servant. In the Summer of 2018, I left OSA to work as a Staff Analyst Level II at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development. I was soon promoted to Associate Staff Analyst at the agency.
After three years at HPD, I returned to OSA's Grievance Department as Grievance Coordinator. My passion for assisting members and fair labor practices has, I hope, made me the right candidate for Grievance Officer on OSA's Executive Board.
The Grievance Officer oversees the work of the union’s Grievance Department. I have the deepest respect for the professionals who handle our members’ grievances day-by-day. I plan to make sure they receive the resources and support they deserve to enable them to help our members.
I seek your support for this position because I do know I love helping our members and find grievance work both exciting and challenging. I hope to bring my enthusiasm to service on your behalf on the Executive Board.
