Delegate-at-Large, Organization of Staff Analysts
During my 36-year career at the Human Resources Administration, I belonged to three different unions. By the time of my retirement, I had moved up the career ladder to Associate Staff Analyst.
I was the Special Assistant to Deputy Commissioner Burt Blaustein from HRA’s Office of Constituent and Community Affairs.
Two months after I retired from HRA, I met with Bob Croghan who recruited me to volunteer with OSA. Since I had been a member of OSA during the early days and had served as a Delegate for the union, he felt I would be an excellent organize, working with new members.
I agreed to volunteer a few days a week and, by the second month, I had decided to help OSA four or five days each week. I have been volunteering for the union for the past 12 years.
I’ve worked on several organizing campaigns for OSA, some as Lead Organizer. I also attend monthly chapter meetings with Bob in many of our agencies throughout the City.
I was especially proud to be a part of OSA’s 50 to 1 victory over LEEBA (Law Enforcement Employees Benevolent Association) when they attempted to raid our uniformed services unit. There were many other important wins too, among them the Senior Consultants (MIS), MetroPlus Nurses, and Associate Directors of Hospitals at New York City Health+Hospitals, and the staff of the NYC Office of Public Advocate.
The Organization of Staff Analysts is the latest of the three unions I belonged to during my years at HRA, and it was the ONLY UNION that I truly felt was worthy of my time and effort because it was so emotionally rewarding working with a knowledgeable, educated membership and staff. I truly love representing our organization!
